0412 Giraffe Encounter Birmingham Zoo
A visitor feeds one of the giraffes in a new interactive habitat at The Birmingham Zoo.
The Birmingham Zoo’s reticulated giraffe is finally ready to welcome back visitors this month as warmer temperatures stick around. The giraffe, said Marketing Coordinator Kiki Nolen-Schmidt, took shelter inside during the cold winter months.
Guests are invited to enjoy an up-close interaction with the giraffe as part of the Kiwanis Giraffe Encounter. For an additional fee, guests can hand-feed the zoo’s giraffe from and elevated viewing platform.
Giraffe feedings began March 5 and will be held on weekends from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and from 1-3 p.m. Feedings will become a daily Zoo activity on March 26.
