Mitchell’s Place will be awarded $10,000 to serve children on the autism spectrum thanks to a round of Celebrity Family Feud this week.
Actress Katy Mixon, who plays Victoria Flynn on the CBS television comedy series Mike & Molly as well as April Buchanon on HBO's Eastbound & Down, and her family faced off against Duck Dynasty's Willie Robertson and his family in an episode that aired Sunday, July 12. Katy has a relative who attends the center and decided to donate her team’s potential earnings to Mitchell’s Place. At the end of Sunday’s show, the Mixons were announced as the winner.
“Everyone associated with Mitchell’s Place is overwhelmed with gratitude for the support Katy Mixon and her family have provided for our programs,” said Mitchell’s Place Executive Director Sandy Naramore. “Katy’s choice of selecting Mitchell’s Place as the Celebrity Family Feud beneficiary has brought nationwide attention to Mitchell’s Place.”
Katy’s brother and sister-in-law, Joel and Kasey Mixon, hosted a watch party for the center’s staff, board and junior council members at Greystone Country Club the night of the airing.
Katy was unable to attend but made a congratulatory video announcing the winnings. The Mixon family also presented a framed picture with signatures of the party attendees. It now hangs in the lobby of Mitchell’s Place for all to see.
“The overall generosity of the Mixon family is greatly appreciated, and we are honored to have been a part of such an exciting event,” Naramore said. “It is truly an experience we will never forget!”
