Mountain Brook police have arrested two suspects in an armed robbery which occurred Friday, Aug. 5, according to a MBPD Facebook post.
On Sunday, Aug. 7, investigators went to Cullman County Jail to question one of the suspects, who had been arrested and charged with receiving stolen property. The receiving stolen property charge was pending further evidence connecting him to an armed carjacking, according to the post.
The individual, 18-year-old Birmingham resident Emmanuel Wiley, reportedly had clothing that matched the clothing of one of the suspects in the armed robbery from Aug. 5.
The car used in the Cullman robbery, which occurred two or three hours after the robbery in Mountain Brook, was a blue Honda Accord. Investigators established that Wiley was one of the offenders in the Mountain Brook robbery, and the car used in Cullman was the same Honda that was taken from the earlier robbery, according to the post.
On Tuesday, Aug. 9, investigators identified a second offender, a 16 year old Birmingham resident, according to the post. At his home on 34th Ave N, police reportedly saw a stolen Infiniti and believe it was the vehicle used to commit the Aug. 5 robbery. The suspect was arrested by MBPD with the assistance of Birmingham Police officers, according to the post.
A stolen Lincoln Aviator was also reportedly recovered at the house, and found the tag for the Honda Accord at the back of the house. The Aviator and several purses and other items in the back yard were turned over to police, according to the report.
Investigators determined both Wiley and the 16-year-old committed multiple armed robberies, according to police, and some are still under investigation.
Warrants charged in Wiley and the 16-year-old suspect with first degree robbery were obtained Wednesday, Aug. 10. The 16-year-old has been charged as an adult and transferred to Jefferson County Jail; Wiley remains in Cullman County Jail. Bond for each man was set to $250,000.
